How Careful Use of Sand Can Revolutionise Your Garden Project

If you have a sprawling open space alongside your home and are in the mood for renovations, then you may want to transform your would-be garden into something that you can be proud of. It may have been left to its own devices by a previous owner and now looks more like a jungle but with a little thought and dedication you can easily turn this around. You may want to devote part of this area to a nice and verdant lawn while allocating a separate area for plants, but if you're creative, you can use other materials to make this environment a fun and visually appealing place to be. How can something as simple as sand be your ally in this project?

Selective Sand

Some people advocate that you can use sand to improve poor drainage in a location where clay soil is dominant, but others may argue against this. You can nevertheless use it in other areas to break up your garden project and make the place fun for the kids.

Sandbox

For example, why not build a sandbox using a timber frame and several bags of sand? Children love to spend time on the beach after all, and you can recreate this to a certain extent if you add a few buckets and spades.

Sand Oasis

Perhaps you can create a sandy environment crafted into the middle of your lawn, where you can set up some deckchairs or recliners around a fire pit. Just imagine how nice it would be to sit out here one evening with your feet in the sand, toasting some marshmallows? Your kids could be alongside you with buckets and spades, and this might keep a lot of that foot traffic away from your growing lawn.

Sand Garden

Some plants flourish in sandy soil and if you intend to introduce cacti, palms or other resistant examples, then why not plant them in a separate area devoted exclusively to a sandy base? Just make sure that you separate this area from other locations within your garden, where moisture is particularly important for growth.

Placing Your Order

If you're looking to make a statement with your garden, then variety is key. Talk to your sand delivery company so that you can get a batch of sand delivered to your home and get down to work. Your kids will be in their element, and your drought-resistant plants will flourish.

About Me

Starting a community garden

I have finally gotten permission from our local council to turn a vacant block in our street into a community garden. I have bought some garden supplies with a small grant that I received, and I can't wait to see what my neighbours manage to grow in this little space. This blog is designed for other community garden organisers to collaborate and plan on what garden supplies we need. I am starting by showing our garden supplies and the progress that we are making in our local garden. I hope you will be inspired by my blog and start your own community garden.
